What is Avastin (Bevacizumab)?

Bevacizumab slows new blood-vessel growth that tumors use. It is an IV infusion, not a home tablet.

Wound healing, bleeding, and blood-pressure risks mean timing around surgery is decided only by the oncologist.

Biosimilar bevacizumab (for example Abevmy) may be listed separately from originator Avastin.

Class: VEGF angiogenesis inhibitor. Roche / Genentech (originator).

Typical uses (as prescribed)

  • Colorectal cancer (with chemotherapy, as indicated)
  • Non-small cell lung cancer (selected settings)
  • Renal cell, ovarian, cervical, and other labeled uses

Avastin FAQs

Is bevacizumab the same as Avastin?
Yes — same active ingredient. Originator Avastin and bevacizumab biosimilars are not automatically interchangeable; follow the exact product on the prescription.
Which Avastin vial do I need, 100mg or 400mg?
Dose is calculated by the oncology team (often mg/kg). Order the strength written on the prescription. Our pharmacist can help match pack sizes.
How is Avastin shipped?
Refrigerated 2–8°C with tracked international courier. Keep the logger printout for your clinic if they request it.
